Plate-Picker
A playful random picker for snacks, main courses and drinks when you can't decide

overview
Plate Picker is a lighthearted web app for indecisive eaters. You enter a few details, get a cheeky personalised greeting, and then generate a random snack, main course and drink with one click each. It's plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
problem
My friends and I kept losing time deciding what to eat from the same handful of local places. I wanted a joke-sized tool that just picks for you.
approach
- 01Kept three hardcoded lists (snacks, main course, drinks) of dishes, some tagged with local spots like Coffea, Finch and Juice Time.
- 02Wrote one random-pick helper that each category's Generate button reuses.
- 03Collected name, gender and age in a short form, built a teasing greeting from them, and smooth-scrolled to the picker.
features
Three generators
Separate buttons pick a random snack, main course or drink.
Personalised greeting
The form input becomes a playful message before you start picking.
Light/dark mode
A toggle switches between two background themes.
challenges
Keeping it small
I deliberately kept the data as simple arrays and the logic as one helper. The point was a fun, finished thing, not a recommendation engine.
outcome
It's live on GitHub Pages. It was a quick project for practising DOM events, form handling and smooth scrolling, with a sense of humour.
